How Important is Reading to Children?

Reading to your child is one of the most important activity you can do together to give them a foot up in life, to help them grow and prosper.  The State of Wsconsin Department of Public Instruction has just released a program called Growing Wisconsin Readers.  This is a simple program with a handout that explains different ages and wich books to read to them, as well as what to look for as you read with your child.  As a parent, Grandparent, babysitter - any kind of caregiver - just take 5 minutes to read a book to your child!

An Evening with Jerry Apps

Just when you thought Jerry was too busy to write any more books - his next book has been released!  Titled "The Quiet Season - remembering country winters."  This book is a companion to the new DVD coming out in November by Wisconsin Public TV - "A Farm Winter with Jerry Apps."   To celebrate both of these releases, the Patterson Memorial Library in Wild Rose in partnership with the Wild Rose High School, WPTV and the Wisconsin Historical Society Press is hosting  "An Evening with Jerry Apps."

Celebrate 50 Years of James Bond!

We have a brand new display - dead ahead as you enter the library!  Help us celebrate 50 years of James Bond (1962-2012) by checking out a book and movie title together!  Our popular "Read the Book - Watch the Movie" display has a Big Brother in Bond!  All the movies and all the books are together - whichever Bond you like (how many have their been?), you 'll have a rousing good time reading the original novel, then watching the movie!

We'll also be running a trivia contest in August, so start reading and watching!
